A Beargrass Team works with Kentucky Refugee Ministries, a non-profit group approved by the State Department, to help resettle refugees from various countries to the U.S.  We have hosted two families from Sudan, one from Russia, two from Burma and one from Iraq over the past decade.

As a church family, we extend a warm welcome, friendship and many resources to help these families adjust to their new country and to our city.  Our sponsorship lasts three months, although the friendships often last much longer.  As part of the BCC Refugee Resettlement Team examples of the services you will help provide include:

• locate an apartment, furnish it with donations from the congregation,
• provide transportation for the family for a period of time,
• teach the family to use public tansportation,
• get the children settled in school,
• accompany family members to medical, dental, financial appointments.

Among the church volunteers, we are usually able to provide persons with expertise in medicine, education and finance.
