Care & Support

Beargrass focuses on providing ministries of care and support for our church family in a variety of ways. Please check out the ways you can be involved – whether as a volunteer or if you are in need of some assistance. For more information on any of the programs below, please contact Rev. Susan Lowe at 896-1161 or email Susan Lowe.

Health Ministries

Our Health Ministries Team seeks to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual health among members of the congregation and community through education (newsletter articles and seminars), health screenings (monthly blood pressure screenings, etc.), and sponsoring interactive events which incorporate spiritual disciplines with exercise (Walk to Jerusalem).

Hospitality Team

Our Hospitality Team coordinates receptions for special events as well as hosts our weekly Wednesday night dinners during the school year.

Call Ministry

Our call ministry keeps in touch with those who haven't been in worship or church over a certain period of time in order to express our care and concern and let them know we are thinking about them. Sometimes we learn of an illness or a specific need for care.

Caregiver Support

Our Dementia Caregiver Support Group meets every second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 am. Facilitated by David Horn and Ray Skaggs, church members who have personally cared for those with dementia, this group is open to anyone who cares for a loved one with any form of dementia.

Support Luncheon

Our Caregiver Support Luncheons occur several times a year to provide a time of food and fellowship, encouragement and support for anyone caring for a loved one (at home or elsewhere). Our hopes are for friendships to be developed or strengthened as well as for everyone to find useful resources and suggestions for their experiences as caregivers.

Our next luncheon is October 29. Please call the church office at 896-1161 to reserve your spot.

Transportation

For those who do not have transportation on Sunday mornings, we seek to provide a ride to and from church with our church's van ministry as well as through members willing to offer a ride to someone who lives in their area. The van departs church Sunday mornings in time to return for Sunday School at 9:45 am and returns riders home immediately following our 11:00 am service. We are always in need or more van drivers!

Prayer

Prayer brings us closer to God and to others as we offer ourselves and the concerns and celebrations of others to God. We have a prayer group, led by Rex Cox, one of our elders, which meets every Tuesday at 12:15 pm in our Chapel.

We also have an email prayer chain which invites members to pray for those who make requests.

Visitation

Whether members are in the hospital, a nursing home/rehab facility, or home bound, we reach out to them through calls, cards, and visits. elders-on-call, women's circles, members of the pastoral care team and others make the visits to be a listening presence, to offer prayer, and to share in communion.

Card Ministry

Our card ministry, organized by elder Penny Peavler-Grass, sends cards to let people who are facing illness, grief, and sorrow, job loss, or other difficulties know they are being held close in thought and prayer by our church familiy. Cards are also sent regularly to those who are home bound or in nursing homes.
