Dr. Leigh E. Bond
Senior Minister
Leigh joined the staff in January 1997 after a ten-year ministry in Waco, TX. Leigh earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Brite Divinity School.
Dr. John Hull
Minister of Faith Development
John came to Beargrass in 1998. He previously served churches in Georgia and California and taught university-level biblical studies in California and Texas. John holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Hebrew Bible from Claremont Graduate University. He oversees adult and children's ministries, Bible studies and has designed our web page.
Rev. Julie Richardson Brown
Minister of Youth and Young Adults
Julie joined our staff in 2006. She attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where she majored in communications. She received her Masters in Divinity from Lexington Theological Seminary in 2002 and continued her work at Crestwood Christian Church in Lexington.
Susan Lowe
Minister of Congregational Care
Susan joined our staff in 2007. She attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina where she majored in Sociology. She received her Master of Arts in Christian Education with an emphasis in Youth Ministry and Social Work from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and her Master of Divinity Equivalency from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. She'll have primary oversight of the congregational care of the church family and assimilation of members into the ministries of the church.
Dr. Gary Straub
Evangelism Consultant
Gary has degrees from Princeton and Vanderbilt and has offered excellent leadership in Disciples congregations for many years. He has written a number of books on church leadership and has been an effective workshop leader. His focus at Beargrass is on evangelism and spiritual growth.

Intern
Gala Spencer Gala will be serving as a seminary intern in 2007-2008. After returning to the University of Louisville and completeing her degree, Gala is now enrolled at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She eventually plans to become a chaplain and will be focusing on pastoral care ministries while she is at Beargrass.

Music Staff


Daniel Spurlock
Director of Music
Daniel directs adult choirs and produces our special music programs. He has a bachelor of music degree and a master of music degree from The Julliard School and has appeared as guest conductor with orchestras throughout the country. He was the principal double-basssist in the Louisville Orchestra for many years.
Meg Blackwell
Director of Children's Choirs
Meg became director for our children's choirs in fall 1996. Meg graduated from Transylvania University with a degree in music education and from the University of Louisville with a master of secondary education in choral music.
Steven Straub
Handbell Director
Steven graduated from Washington and Lee University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and from Indiana University Southeast with a Master's Degree in Education. He directs our Adult and Children's Handbells and is our Children's Ministries Co-ordinator. He is a teacher at Assumption High School and also directs the handbells there.
Denise Whittington
Organist
Denise plays the organ and piano at our 5:30 p.m., and 11:00 a.m. services. She also directs our Youth Choir and Youth Band. She holds degrees in piano performance and music education from the University of Missouri--Columbia. She also has a Masters of Church Music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Becky Greenwell Becky directs our music at the 5:30 p.m. Saturday service.
Anthony Ransom Anthony is the keyboardist and praise and worship leader for the 8:45 a.m. contemporary service. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 2006 and holds a B. A. degree in Music/Jazz Piano.

Steven Straub
Children's
Co-ordinator
Steven graduated from Washington and Lee University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and from Indiana University Southeast with a Master's Degree in Education. He is a teacher at Assumption High School and also directs the handbells there.
Dodi Hance
Young Children's Co-ordinator
Dodi co-ordinates our young children's care program (ages 0-5) on Sunday morning and Saturday evening.


Jean Anderson
Librarian

Jean graduated from Georgetown College and the University of Louisville with degrees in Home Economics. She received her Certification in Library Science from Spalding College.
John Tremayne
Athletic Ministries
Director

John graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in sports administration. He's in charge of our athletic ministries and organizes events such as volleyball, basketball, rock climbing and golf.
Kathy Wise
Parent's Day Out Director
Kathy graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in elementary education. She directs our Parent's Day Out program for young children which meets on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Jenell Buckman
Office Administrator

Jenell attended Bellarmine University where she studied accounting. Jenell handles financials, contributions, room assignments, weddings and the calendar.
Marikeith Mercke
Morning Membership
Secretary and
Receptionist
The Membership Secretary updates member information in our database, takes reservations, answers the phone, is in charge of the workroom, and keeps track of visitors. She also does the monthly flyers for CYF, Chi Rho and JYF. Marikeith works from 9:00 until 1:00 p.m. each day.

Judy Henry
Afternoon Membership

Sandy Sundheimer
Publications Secretary

Sandy has a master's degree from Penn State University in social statistics. She is in charge of the bulletins, takes care of our web page, and is editor of the newsletter and quarterly magazine.
